Artful Fabric - 1 day (6 hrs)
This class is geared to quilters and others that want to design their own fabric. Students will learn the basics of the paints, tools and materials used to apply a non-toxic transparent paint to fabric. This class is meant to be fun and encourage experimentation. Students will go home with about 2 yards of fabric.
More Artful Fabric - Days 2 and/or 3 (6 hrs.)
Each day will build upon the previous day by introducing more techniques, stamps, monoprinting and more. Again, fun and experimentation are encouraged.
Introduction to Painting on Fabric - Three hours
This class is a paired down version of the day long class. All materials needed will be covered as well as a few techniques. The students will go home with at least 4 fat quarters on their own painted fabric.
Silk Fusion (paper making) - 1 to 2 days ( 6 hours/day )
This class is best when done on two days, as the paper needs to dry before continuing, although a one day class is sufficient for the student to learn the process. A second day would explore ideas and options to finish the projects. The students will learn about the different silk fibers, how to make the paper and dye the silk. Silk paper can be shaped to make vessels, it can be cut, stitched, collages, etc. Students will leave with two projects for the one day class, and at least two more for a two day class.
Both classes would require access to water and space enough to dry the work. It would be nice (but not a requirement) to have access to the outdoors where we could put the work to dry on nice days.
Introduction to the Art Quilt - 1 to 3 days (6 hours per day)
This class is for quilters who are interested in expanding beyond traditional quilts but aren't sure where to start. It is meant to be a fun and safe place to gain confidence. A one day class will cover a short introduction to design and a couple of easy techniques (fusing and raw edge applique), and a demonstration of free motion quilting. This class will provide enough time and information for the student to have started a small piece and have a good idea of how to finish it at home.
Each additional day will allow us to slow down the process and delve more deeply into design, more piecing techniques and free motion quilting.
